MVP (Minimum Valuable Product)

An MVP (Minimum Valuable Product) is a simplified product built to test a concept with real users before investing in full development. The term was popularized by Eric Ries as part of the Lean Startup methodology. It focuses on collecting the maximum amount of validated learning about customers with the least effort. MVPs help teams avoid building features no one needs by using landing pages, prototypes, or even manual processes to test core ideas.

Early adopters provide feedback that drives product improvement and reduces risk. Famous MVP examples include Dropbox's explainer video, Airbnb’s apartment rental test, and Amazon’s online bookstore. A strong MVP solves real pain points and proves there’s market demand for the product.

Once validated, teams can evolve it into a Minimum Marketable Product (MMP) or a more complete version. MVPs support agile, user-driven development and reduce time, cost, and uncertainty in product creation.
